GarageBand For iOS Gets Updated With AudioBus Support And Other Fixes

Apple today updated its GarageBand for iOS, bringing the app up to version 1.4 and providing support for Audiobus. Originally launched back in December, Audiobus is an iOS app available from developer A Tasty Pixel described as an “inter-app audio routing system.” The app allows users to route audio from a growing list of third-party Audiobus compatible synths, drum machines, effects, and audio editing apps and record them simultaneously in other supported multi-track editing apps. That means GarageBand users will now be able to use Audiobus to route audio instruments and effects from other Audiobus compatible iOS apps into a GarageBand session.

Audiobus provides an SDK to developers that want to integrate the ability to support the Audiobus app and a long list of popular music creation apps have already taken part, including: Cubasis, Animoog, many of Korg’s apps, JamUp, Loopy, and now GarageBand. You can see a full list of apps that support Audiobus here. The Audiobus app will cost you an additional $9.99 on top of the cost of GarageBand ($4.99).

Other improvements in today’s update include the ability to turn off grid snapping in order to easier control the placement of regions when editing and a fix for issues with third-party audio accessories:

 • Play and record music apps supported by Audiobus directly into GarageBand*
• Turn off grid snapping to get finer control over region and note editing
• Fixes an issue that resulted in feedback while connecting 3rd-party audio accessories into the headphone/microphone jack.

Vodafone UK Gives The Green Light to iPhone 4S Users in Regards to iOS 6.1.1

Vodafone customers in the UK have been given the green light to update their iPhone 4S handsets now that a new version of iOS 6.1.1 has cropped up. The update, which we reported on yesterday, fixes the issue that kept some customers from being able to connect to a network or to make and receive calls and text messages.

In an update on its forums, Vodafone assures its subscribers that Apple's new iPhone software fixes those performance issues. "Please download the latest version—iOS 6.1.1—from Apple as soon as you can as this will deal with these issues,” urges Phil from the Vodafone Tech Team.

Vodafone had issued a warning in its forums to its UK subscribers last week, cautioning against installing the iOS 6.1 update on an iPhone 4S. The company went as far as to send out text messages to its subscribers to ensure its customers were aware of the impacted 3G performance brought on by the update. Fortunately, it looks like all has been improved.

Apple Updates Final Cut Pro X, Motion and Compressor, Again!

Only a few weeks after updating Final Cut Pro X to version 10.0.6, Apple updates once again Final Cut Pro X with a maintenance & bug fix release.

This update addresses the following issues (from Apple.com):

•   The Letterbox effect “Offset” slider is restored.

•   Fixes an issue that could occur when creating a single layer DVD.

•   Fixes an issue in which some third-party effects could cause Final Cut Pro to stop responding during background rendering.

•   Fixes an issue in which some third-party transitions would incorrectly use black instead of source media.

•   Adds support for editing MXF files that are still ingesting.

•   Fixes an issue with rendering Motion Templates containing Image Units.

•   Fixes an issue with the display of the Modify RED RAW settings button in synchronized and compound clips.

•   Fixes an issue with the upload of clips that are larger than 1 GB to Vimeo.

•   Fixes an issue in which an incorrect frame size is used with filters on two adjacent clips with different pixel aspect ratio.

This update weight 126 MB and requires MacOS X 10.6.8 or later and it is a free download on the Mac Apple Store for current users. New customers can purchase Final Cut Pro for $299.99.

Motion gets updated to version 5.0.6 and Compressor to version 4.0.6. Both are big fix updates and are free for current users. New users can get Motion & Compressor for $49.99 each on the Mac AppStore.
