Galaxy S4, The Next Android Top Smartphone Can Now be Pre Ordered Now!

The Samsung Galaxy S4 doesn’t hit shop shelves until 26 April, but if you just can’t wait to get hold of the full HD, turbo-charged Android smartphone, we’ve got good news for you: it’s now up for pre-order with your network of choice.

Vodafone, EE and Three have all now made the Samsung Galaxy S4 available for pre-order, as have stores Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U – and you can bet O2 won’t be far behind.

The networks are all trying to stand out in their own ways: EE is providing accessory packs worth £55 thrown in for pre-orderers, while Phones4U is offering up to £100 in Google Play vouchers for those who opt for a Samsung Galaxy S4 on EE 4G through the store.

If you can cope without 4G super speeds (or you don’t yet live in an area with LTE coverage), by far the best deal so far however is with Three, which is offering a free Samsung Galaxy S4 on a two year contract for £35 per month, with unlimited data, 500 minutes and 5,000 text messages.

In case you missed the hubbub earlier this month when the Samsung Galaxy S4 was revealed, it’s shaping up to be a true iPhone slayer, with a massive 1080p screen, quad-core processor and 13 megapixel camera, plus the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board.

iPad Mini and 4th Gen iPad WiFi Versions Will Hit China This Week

Apple announced today that the Wi-Fi and cellular versions of the iPad Mini and the fourth generation iPad with Retina Display will be available in China this Friday. iPad Mini and the fourth generation iPad are currently available in more than 100 countries, including the China, the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the U.K.

The launch makes good on Tim Cook’s statement in a January 10 interview with Chinese news out Tencent QQ (link via Google Translate) that the cellular model of the iPad mini would be available in China by late January. The Cupertino-based company’s last rollout in that country was just one month ago, when the iPad mini and 4th generation iPad arrived on December 7, and the iPhone 5 on December 14. Reports surfaced that early turnout of buyers at Apple stores for the iPad mini was low immediately after its debut in China, but that could have been because of the reservation system set up by the company after a near riot by customers who had waited overnight in front of the Beijing Apple store for the iPhone 4S.

Apple’s China product launches have become increasingly important as it looks toward that country becoming its most important market in the “not too distant future,” as Cook told Chinese news site Sina during his visit to the country last week. Though Chinese consumers had to wait two months for a Wi-Fi and cellular iPad mini or fourth generation iPad, Cook has focused on speeding up the rollout of Apple products in China, a task that involves overcoming regulatory hurdles and hashing out a deal with China Mobile, the country’s largest carrier. Oracle’s Patch for the Zero-Day Java Flaw in The Works

Oracle recently issued a statement in response to the discovery of a Java 7 flaw that prompted Apple to disable the software in OS X. In the statement, Oracle said that they are currently working on a fix and will release the patch soon. There was no specific timeline as to when the fix will be pushed out other than Oracle vaguely saying “a fix will be available shortly.”

For those of you who don’t already know, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said that Java’s most-recent vulnerability is being “attacked in the wild, and is reported to be incorporated into exploit kits.” For its part, Oracle noted in its statement that the flaw only affects the most up-to-date version of Java 7 and Java software designed to run in Internet browsers. 

Both Apple and Java have had a rough relationship over the past few years, including a move to drop the Java runtime from OS X 10.7 Lion’s default installation when the OS debuted in 2010. Another flaw in Oracle’s internet plugin was responsible for the most widespread malware ever when the “Flashback” Trojan reportedly affected roughly 600,000 OS X machines in April 2012. Apple’s continued efforts to wean away from Java in OS X led to the company’s final official in-house Java update issued in May 2012, at which point all responsibility for future updates was handed over to Oracle. We’ll have to wait and see how long it takes Oracle to update the current Java issue.
