It would
be wise to become more cautious about wherever you charge your phone, a group
of experts from the Georgia Institute of Technology have come up with a prototype charger effective at installing spyware onto an iPhone.
The research, which is to be shown at
the Black Hat Security meeting next month and was identified by Forbes,
was created out from the thought of creating innocent-looking devices that
could be utilised to hack a mobile phone. Describing their conclusions as
"scary", the researchers explain:
"Despite the plethora of defence mechanisms in iOS, we successfully injected arbitrary software into current-generation Apple devices running the latest operating system (OS) software... All users are affected, as our approach requires neither a jailbroken device nor user interaction.”
