The much talked about Surface Slate device launches on the 26th of October alongside Windows 8 and the pre-orders of the iPad mini, but it’s not the only Slate running Windows 8 RT. The Asus Vivo Tablet RT is coming to the UK very soon, and today the Taiwan tech company stated that it’ll be available via UK mobile networks also. The iPad just got a 3g rival!
The Asus Vivo Tab RT doesn’t divert from the design shape too much. It’s a 10.1-inch metal tablet at just 8.3mm thick, with a super fast quad-core processor and a generous 64GB of flash storage space and an eight megapixel shooter. It runs Windows 8 RT, the washed down version of Windows 8 designed for mobile devices, which is fast but only lets you download apps and games from the Microsoft’s online digital store – very much like how the iPad only works with the iTunes App Store. Not like Apple’s bad boy however, it comes with an optional full fledge keyboard that acts like a dock also, so you can turn it into a laptop.
Asus first unveiled the Asus Vivo Tab RT to the masses a few months ago, this is the first we've heard about the details of the UK launch. Asus states it’ll be going on sale in the UK before Christmas, and while it’s not divulging the price just yet, it has confirmed that a 3G-connected version will be available on both Three and Vodafone.
That gives the iPad and its mobile data connected models a new competitor – most tablets only include Wi-Fi for net connectivity. But what the Asus Vivo Tab RT doesn’t have that the new iPad does is 4G, for turbo download speeds on the move. Does that disappoint you? Let us know in the comments below.
