O2 UK Follows in The Footsteps of T-Mobile US And Introduces Refresh, Separating Phone And Airtime Contracts

UK mobile carrier O2 is following T-Mobile’s US lead in separating phone and airtime plans.

Unlike Uncontract, O2′s Refresh deal still requires customers to sign up to an airtime contract, but allows greater flexibility by paying off the phone plan at a faster rate, and getting more frequent upgrades.
Customers can reduce the monthly cost of the phone plan by paying an up-front amount, or trading in the old handset, and can pay off the phone plan balance at any time in order to upgrade.

A customer buys a HTC One on O2 Refresh and chooses to pay £17 per month for their Airtime Plan and gets unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data. They then choose to pay £20 per month for their Phone Plan and pay £49.99 up front, meaning their combined O2 Refresh tariff costs £37 per month, the same as they would pay on a standard 24 month Pay Monthly contract.

To make it even more affordable to get the latest smartphone, customers can trade in their old mobile for cash using O2 Recycle, getting up to £260 to put towards their new phone.
Refresh is focused on higher-end handsets, and will initially offer a choice of iPhone 5, HTC One, Sony Xperia Z, Blackberry Z10 and Samsung Galaxy S3. [Source]

Now TV Pricing For Sky Sports is a Ludicrous £9.99 For Only 24 Hours

In an attempt to offer a compromise for UK viewers who may want to watch the occasional sporting event but don't want a full pay-TV package, Sky Sports is available in pay-as-you-go form on its Now TV service. Access won't come cheap however, priced at £9.99 for 24 hours of access to Sky's six sports channels. That does however open up streams for all of the sports it airs, like F1, soccer, cricket and more, on TV-connected devices like the Xbox 360 and its mobile apps. [Source]

Beautiful LG OLED TV Hits UK Stores For a Modest £10K

LG’s been wheeling out its giant, gorgeous 55-inch OLED TV at tradeshows for years, but now at long last, it’s going on sale in the UK. Want one? You’ll need to smash open more than a few piggy banks.
The South Korean gadget giant is bringing its brand new set exclusively to Harrods it’s available for customers to pre-order for delivery in July for a cool £9,999. OLED TVs use similar tech to the dazzling screens on Samsung’s Galaxy S phones – they don’t need a backlight, and pixels can be turned on and off individually, meaning you can get stunning contrast on screen at once, with true blacks and bright whites. But they’re also vastly more difficult to produce at large sizes, which is why LG’s facing little competition in the OLED telly area right now.
At just 4.5 millimetres thin and weighing in at less than 10kg, LG has stuffed in a massive 55-inch OLED panel that screams picture quality along with its web-connected smart TV tech and built-in 3D skills.
Of course, the only thing to consider when plonking down cash for LG’s new TV is whether or not to splurge out on LG’s other world’s first TV set at Harrods: the massive 84” Ultra HD TV that LG showed off in November.
Is this your next TV or are you waiting for a smaller OLED set to hit the high street? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. [GadgetShow]
