The gruesome chronicle of a legal elephant hunt




While permissible under certain conditions, elephant hunting remains a controversial topic due to poaching and its devastating effects on the species. GQ's Wells Tower writes a vivid and often harrowing account of his experiences with one of the last legal elephant hunting expeditions in Botswana. He charts the entire gruesome process with excruciating detail, beginning with his meeting with the hunters and ending with the buzzards' attempt at scavenging the last scraps from an elephant's corpse.
