It was 70 years ago that over 150,000 Allied soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy as part of Operation Overlord. It may seem that June 6th, 1944 — D-Day — is ages removed from us, but it's not as alien as it seems. The Guardian has put together a wonderful "then and now" photo essay for the anniversary that makes the events both more relatable and more spectacular. It's certainly worth a look.
