Microsoft
is starting the next phase of its advertising targeting the iPad this week.
After the iPad mini commercial parody,
a fresh site tries to convince punters that Windows RT and Windows 8 slates are
worth purchasing instead of the iPad. Microsoft has selected the
Dell XPS 10, Asus VivoTab Smart, HP Envy x2, and its Surface RT tablet to
comparison against the iPad 32Gb and 64GB models.
The majority of
the comparisons are fair and true, including battery life, display size and
weight between the devices, although Microsoft seems to be singling out Office
applications as an advantage without noting Apple's alternative. Microsoft
notes that the iPad is only able to run OneNote, but there's no mention that
Microsoft is the only supplier of Office apps on iOS. The charts include lots
of the same comparisons that have been produced in Microsoft's latest ad, with
a main attention to price.
The comparison
website arrives a litlle over four years after the Redmond-based company launched
its laptop hunter TV ads that
aimed at Apple's MacBooks directly with comparisons that also centered on price
points. The laptop hunter ads were released prior to the release of Windows 7
as OEMs were still selling Windows Vista based notebooks. The company's latest
comparison website is released just months before the organization plans to
unveil its Windows 8.1 update to
deal with the negative feedback and launch new features. The timing couldn't be
better, although it's only the newest push in an effort to sell Windows
8 in tablet form factors.
