As well as the
popular Galaxy S range, Samsung also has a semi-flagship device in the
larger-than-life Note, often described as a "phablet" due to its
sizeable display real estate. As well as looking similar to each other in terms
of form factor, the devices tend to use many of the same components, and
according to a specs leak, the Galaxy Note 3 could be
following in the footsteps of the Galaxy S4 by offering an octa-core processor.
Of all the major mobile vendors,
Samsung has shown itself time and again as being undeterred when it comes to
upping the specs, and although the numbers droids are always enthused to see
the hardware given a generous bump on an annual basis, many have called into
question the need for such excessive hardware on a smartphone or tablet.
Nonetheless,
quad / octa-core Galaxy S 4, which also boasts 2GB of RAM, demonstrates that
the Korean company is in no mood to break from tradition, and if this specs
leak of the Note 3 is indicative of the real deal, we could be in for yet
another jaw-dropping list that would equate to the most powerful smartphone on
the market.
The good folks of SamMobile
regularly track the movements of the South Korean outfit, and cite "trusted
inside sources" in releasing details of the Note 3. As well as the
octa-core processor, the blog reckons the device will also weigh in with an
eight-core Mali 450 GPU and an almighty 3GB of RAM. Wow.
Considering 4GB
of RAM is considered adequate for a mid-to-high-end notebook nowadays, that’s a
helluva lot of RAM, and with such a beefy processor and graphics output,
even the likes of the Galaxy S 4 and HTC One would look rather ordinary by
comparison.
The amount to which these extravagant
additions will improve real-world performance is perhaps not relative to the
number jumps, since there’s only so much faster and smoother a device can get
at this point in time. With that kind of repertoire on board, the amount of
battery required to keep things ticking over will probably have to be knocking
on the door of 3,000 mAh, and while this is definitely a device for a power
user rather than an everyday Instagrammer, you cannot detract from how
impressive those specs are.
With a reported
6-inch full-HD Super AMOLED display, 13-megapixel camera, thinner bezel over
its predecessor and Android 4.3 right off the
bat, this would well and truly upstage a Galaxy S 4 device which is already
feeling the heat of the HTC One.

this octa-core, 3GB RAM talk, so be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments
