The teaser site
for the next in the series of Call of Duty has gone live, presenting a dark
background with a pixelated but still visible image of a ghost’s mask. The new
landing page, which can be found over at callofduty.com, signifies that
an announcement of the forthcoming title is nigh, and with leaks indicating
Ghosts as being a central theme to the next Call of Duty release, it doesn’t
appear as though avid fans of the series will have to wait too much longer to
learn of specifics.
Only last week, supermarket retailer
Tesco inadvertently revealed the title as being "Call of Duty: Ghosts"
on some PS3 cover art on its site. The listing was swiftly removed, but
with this new landing page over at the Call of Duty website, the likelihood of
the title being Call of Duty: Ghosts would seem quite high.
So, where does
the name and the theme "Ghost" come from, and what is its
significance? Well, as veterans of the title will know, Lieutenant Simon
"Ghost" Riley was British Special Air Service operator inducted into
the series back in 2009′s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and if he is to be
the protagonist for this release, gamers will likely be given an insight into
the secretive / covert ops side of being a soldier, as opposed to all-out
battle.
Prior to the recent leaks, it was
presumed the title would be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, but with
Tesco and also Target in the U.S. seeming to have leaked the Ghosts title,
perhaps Activision has decided to break a consistent habit of going with Modern
Warfare one year, Black Ops the next.
Whatever the
case may be, expect an announcement very soon indeed. Last year, the wraps were
taken off Black Ops 2 on May 1st, and with this landing page now live, perhaps
we’ll see a repeat one again this year. The title always releases toward the
latter stages of the year, so we’d expect nothing less this year, although
don’t get your hopes up for any support for either the next-gen PlayStation 4
from Sony or Microsoft’s soon-to-be-announced Xbox machine.
I just hope the wraps are taken off
soon from this title, the teaser page is enough to get our hopes high! [Source]
