A Facebook SatNav in The Works? Everything is Possible

Smartphone tech is invading your car: just days after we checked out the iBeetle, the Siri-powered Volkswagen designed with a helping hand from Apple, we’ve now got word of a satnav with the unique power of Facebook access, so you can see what your mates are up to while you’re on the road. No, really.
Parrot’s Asteroid series of satnavs powered by Google’s Android operating system have been supercharged today with the arrival of several new apps. The big one is Facebook, which lets you access your profile, chat with and message friends and receive notifications – though it goes without saying that you really shouldn’t use this unless you’re safely parked up somewhere.
That makes Parrot’s web-connected Asteroid GPS gizmos the first Facebook satnavs by our reckoning – it’s a nice idea that merges auto-tech with mobile smarts, though some of the other new arrivals to its Asteroid app store are actually more useful. There’s a new VLC app, so you can watch videos (Again, park up, or give it to the kids in the back), as well as Waze – the social driving app that can give you a heads up on traffic jams from other drivers on the road ahead of you.
You can find all the new apps on the Parrot Asteroid Mini, Tablet and Smart satnavs today. Are they useful additions or daft distractions? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
