Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has started to hit Samsung Galaxy S2 phones in the UK at long last. Seven months
after Google released its newer, speedier software for Nexus devices, Samsung
has finally brought it to the very best phone of 2011. So when will you get it?
Samsung Galaxy S2 owners, it’s time to start
hitting “Check for updates” over and over: the first reports of Brits receiving the Android 4.1 update have
hit. It appears to be just for unlocked handsets for now (Ones bought SIM-free
or through a reseller rather than through a network directly), but this should
mean the start of a slow trickle for everyone over the next few weeks.
Android Jelly Bean adds new features like
Google Now, the clever assistant that tries to predict what you need before you
ask for it, but it’s the speed boost that’s the big deal here. Android 4.1’s
“Project Butter” improvements make everything seem much snappier – good news if
your old Samsung is starting to show signs of lag.
The timing couldn’t be better too: Samsung
recently announced a version of the Samsung Galaxy S2 with Android installed
right out of the box, the S2 Plus – with any luck, this update should put your veteran
S2 back in parity with it.
