Asus Releases it's Answer to The Microsoft Surface Pro

Asus is stepping up to the Windows 8 tablet game with its Intel Atom powered 10.1-inch tablet, the Asus VivoTab ME400 alongside a rather familiar clip-on keyboard cover. Is this your Microsoft Surface Pro beater, or is it just a wannabe?

Asus’ affordable tablet measures up at a mere 9.7mm thick and weighs 580g, and packs an HD touchscreen display. Much like Microsoft’s foray into tablet hardware, Asus also offers an optional keyboard cover priced at £89.99 that protects the device, serves as a stand and also adds some added tactile input.

The tablet’s powered by a nippy dual-core Intel Atom processor and 2GB RAM, which means that it should be able to keep up with all the tasks you can throw at it. And because it’s Intel-powered, it’s also compatible with both Windows 8 Store and your regular Windows desktop apps – just don’t expect to be playing all the latest high-end games on it.

The tablet also has an 8-megapixel, 1080p full HD video recording camera with autofocus on the back, while a two-megapixel front facing camera gears up the tablet for video chat. Priced at £399, it makes it a reasonable alternative to Microsoft’s Surface Pro, especially since that’s not on sale yet. Microsoft’ Surface RT is out now, but it’ll only run new, full-screen apps from the Windows store.

The Asus Memo Pad 10 Comes Out of The Shadows

It's been but a mere few days since ASUS quietly introduced that Jelly Bean-loaded, 7-inch Memo Pad, though if a recent video shown off on YouTube is to be believed, the company's got yet another, larger Memo Pad up its sleeve. Such tablet's said to be the MeMo Pad 10, which has yet to be officially unveiled by the Taiwanese firm but has somehow made its way to the folks over at MobileArena. Just like its smaller sibling, the MeMo Pad 10 is reportedly sporting a flavor of Android's latest, but, as its moniker would imply, a 10-inch (1280 x 800) display is among the highlights here -- other purported specs include a 1.2GHz Tegra 3 CPU, 1GB RAM and 16GB of built-in storage (which could be expanded via microSD). We'll have to wait and see if ASUS makes a MeMo Pad 10 announcement in a few weeks at Mobile World Congress; until then, however, there's a video after the break for anyone interested in getting an early peek at the slate. Asus Unveils The Memo Tablet, A 7" Number For a Measly £90

We’re still waiting on that $99 Google Nexus tablet rumoured to be in the works, but in the meantime, we’ve got another tasty cut-price tablet to admire: meet the brand new Asus MemoPad, a seven-inch number running Android 4.1 that costs a mere $150 (£93).

Much like Acer’s new low price Iconia, the Asus MemoPad is a seven-inch tablet with a 1024×600 resolution display – much like the original Amazon Kindle Fire. Unlike Amazon’s slate though, it’s running full fat Android 4.1 with access to the Google Play store and apps galore, and with any luck, its 1GHz processor and 1GB of memory should be more than enough for casual users on the performance front.

On the storage front, the Asus MemoPad squeezes in 8 or 16GB of space, enough for plenty of songs and movies, though you can bump that up with a Micro SD memory card.

It’s out in the US this month for $150, and we’re chasing to find out when we’ll be seeing it in the UK and for how much, so stay tuned – Asus’ storming success with the Google Nexus 7 means this is one low price iPad mini rival to watch. [GadgetShow]
