The NVIDIA's
Tegra 4i was unveiled in February bringing, amongst other features, its
built-in Cat. 3 LTE modem effective at speeds as high as 100Mbps. What NVIDIA
didn't tell us was that the i500 modem, the product of
its Icera acquisition, had the
processing power to allow firmware update to the modem to improve its speed to
Cat. 4 LTE 150Mbps.
We visited NVIDIA and saw a "demo" photo above of
the unit being benchmarked at 150Mbps along with placing a real call on
AT&T's network and streaming video. Needless to say LTE-Advanced doesn't exist in real life
yet, nor does an actual handset sporting this chip, though seeing one more
player battling Qualcomm is just down right incredible.
