HGST Announces 2.5-inch Notebook HDD With 1.5TB Capacity Making it The Densest Available

If you are searching for pure storage capacity for your money, SSDs don't even come close to regular HDD's. The WD subsidiary HGST has condensed more GB's right into an already cramped space, far more than previously accomplished, with the newest Travelstar 5K1500.

A 2.5" laptop drive, 9.5mm thin model carrying 1.5TB of storage, giving your notebook a massive shot of extra storage capacity while using hardly any physical space. The double platter drive boasts 694Gb per square inch and draws merely a 1.8W, although it must spin at a disgraceful 5,400 RPM. Nevertheless, it is said to absorb 400Gs of shock for 2ms and carry on ticking, so it won't have any trouble surviving reentry.

The Company is aiming at notebooks, external hdd's, consoles and All In One PC markets, and will even offer an enhanced availability (EA) model. No pricing was announced yet, but it will be around in June, so, taking that high definition film editing project on the road does not sound so far fetched now.
