Chrome OS Hidden Code Shows Notification And Google Now Future Support

After a major update to its Chrome OS last year with Aura, Google appears to be readying a new feature: a Notification Centre. François Beaufort has spotted templated notifications in the latest Windows Chromium build, part of a new Notification Center. The notifications can be enabled by togging a flag in Chrome's settings, paving the way for users to create their own notifications within a Chrome extension.

Beaufort speculates that that the Notification Center could become a hub for future Google Now support in Chrome OS. A recent code revision to Chromium appears to hint at Google Now card support, with a 'skeleton' framework for the predictive search service. Chrome OS has long supported notifications, but they have been largely hit and miss — supported by a small number of apps. Any move to support Google Now in Chrome OS would bring synergy to Google's ecosystem in a similar way to Apple's move to bring its iOS-like Notification Centre to Mountain Lion. If The Date on The Devices is Something to go by, Jailbreak is on The 3rd

We heard whispers earlier this week that an iOS 6 jailbreak that would unleash the power of your iPhone 5 was on the way, and now it looks like it’s right on track. A website for the jailbreak has gone live, and all signs point to a release as soon as this Sunday.

Head on over to evasi0n.com and you’ll see the website for a new iOS 6 jailbreak that’ll let you unlock your iPhone 5, iPad mini or any other device running iOS 6. It’s not live yet, but it looks like you simply have to plug your iPhone into your computer (PC, Mac or Linux) and just hit go – the team behind it, including legendary iPhone hackers musclenerd and pod2g, are testing it right now behind closed doors before unleashing it on the masses.

While there’s no release date on the site, we doubt it’s a coincidence that every iOS gadget featured on the homepage has the date showing 3 on it – which could well be this Sunday 3 February.

An iOS jailbreak is the holy grail for smarpthone hackers, who spend months looking for security flaws in Apple’s software that can be easily exploited. Once jailbroken, your iPhone can run apps Apple hasn’t approved, and you can even change its themes and interface in ways you couldn’t before.

Though it comes half a year after the launch of iOS 6, this marks the first time you’ll be able to easily jailbreak an iPhone 5 or iPad mini, and we’re sure plenty of people will be itching to do so.

The Evad3rs Have Spoken And Evasi0n is a Reality, Take a Peak

This is just in. The Evad3rs team have just announced Evasi0n, an iOS 6 / 6.1 untethered jailbreak tool for Windows, Mac and Linux. While the tool hasn’t been released yet, it is currently in final testing stages, and if a recent tweet of MuscleNerd is anything to go by, release is likely set for Sunday.

The announcement was made today on the official Twitter account of team Evad3rs, which consists of prominent iOS devs such as MuscleNerd, Pod2g, Planetbeing and Pimskeks.

Evasi0n will support all firmwares from iOS 6.0 through iOS 6.1, and will be compatible with following devices:

•  iPhone 5

•  iPhone 4S

•  iPhone 4

•  iPhone 3GS

•  iPad 4

•  iPad 3

•  iPad 2

•  iPad mini

•  iPod touch 5

•  iPod touch 4

•  Apple TV 2

The only device which is currently not supported is Apple TV 3.

According to the official website, Evasi0n, at minimum, will require a computer running Windows XP and over, OS X 10.5 and over, or Linux (x86 / x86_64).

Even though all iOS 6.x firmwares (iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2 and 6.1) are said to be supported, it is highly recommended to update to the latest iOS 6.1 version via iTunes (you can download iOS 6.1 firmware from here), NOT OTA (over-the-air), to take full advantage of all the features the latest firmware has to offer, with the added benefits of the jailbreak.

We will obviously post a complete step-by-step tutorial along with a video walk-through on how to jailbreak your iPhone 5 and other supported devices – untethered – using Evasi0n, as soon as it is released! So stay tuned for that.
