Nokia Releases 3D Printing Specifications For Making Custom Lumia 820 Back Covers

One of the great things about Nokia phones from way back when was making it your own with swappable plastic. While that level of exterior personalisation isn't available on many handsets these days -- instead we've got bumpers and cases -- Nokia added a removable shell to its Lumia 820 Windows Phone. You can always go ahead and buy new ones, but if you've got access to a 3D printer, Nokia has just released a "3D-printing Development Kit" with all the documentation you'll need to create a custom backing for yourself. It's available for download from the source links below, and contains "3D templates, case specs, recommended materials and best practices." [Engadget]

Apple v Amazon Court Case Judge Ordered Settlement Discussion

Apple and Amazon are fighting over made up words, as you may well be aware. Apple takes issue with Amazon’s use of “Appstore,” the name for the online retailer’s marketplace of Android software, which came after Apple had already been using its own App Store branding for a mobile apps market for a couple of years. A judge now says that before the issue actually goes to trial in August, the two will have to try to hammer things out via settlement, according to AllThingsD.
Already, there has been some movement in the case this year. A judge ruled previously that Apple’s claims of false advertising related to the Appstore name were unmerited. Where Apple had believed that by using the name, Amazon was implying that its product was sponsored by or affiliated with Apple. Amazon, on the other hand, claimed the matter at hand is simply standard an allegation of trademark infringement, and the judge in the case agreed, finding that there was “no evidence that a consumer who accesses the Amazon Appstore would expect that it would be identical to the Apple APP STORE,” due mostly to the fact that Apple sells software for iOS while Amazon sells it exclusively for Android-based devices.
In the new court order issued Monday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Laporte says the two will have to attend a settlement discussion on March 21, with executives present who are in a position to be able to negotiate a binding agreement. But although they must try, there’s no guarantee they’ll actually reach a resolution, and in fact, I suspect the more likely outcome is that we will indeed see the trial go forward on August 19 as planned.
This is a fight that has been going on for two years now, and it has involved more than just Apple and Amazon. The interesting thing to watch will be how damages are assigned if any clear victor emerges from these proceedings; two years’ worth of mobile software sales means Apple could be in for a large settlement, should Amazon indeed be found to have been in the wrong. Transform The iPad into a Macbook With The New Clamcase Pro [Video]

When the original Clamcase iPad accessory landed on the market, it managed to gain a lot of interest by being tagged as something of a game changer. Wrapping an external keyboard and a multi-position stand all-in-one iPad accessory was an extremely intelligent move by the makers, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype and pulled in some very negative reviews. After going back to the drawing board and attempting to right the wrongs, Clamcase is back with their Pro version of the case that is lighter, thinner and packs in even more punch for your $169.

The Clamcase Pro is most definitely built on the same fundamental design concepts of the original product. The accessory is being billed as the company’s thinnest and lightest product to date, but still managing to provide the iPad with all of the protection it deserves while allowing the user to achieve maximum productivity. The product is pretty gorgeous to look at, but putting aesthetics aside, it is also extremely versatile by packing in the ability to transform into a number of different modes.

Users can opt to slot in their iPad and use the Clamcase Pro as a makeshift laptop, with the display of the iPad being held front and center with a MacBook inspired keyboard. The product also works as a touchscreen stand with the keyboard folded out of view as well as a perfectly capable carrying case thanks to the 360-degree hinge that allows the back cover to fold away. Clamcase Pro includes built-in Bluetooth connectivity to allow the iPad and the attached keyboard to connect with one another.

The case also comes added with little presents for the user, like a rechargeable battery and the ability to put itself to sleep when not being used and immediately wake up as soon as the full QWERTY keyboard is interacted with. The whole product is made up of an aluminum casing with a polycarbonate shell and soft touch surfaces to give it that extra polished feel. In the time it has taken to get the Clamcase Pro designed and out to the market we have seen competing companies release similar products, but it looks like Clamcase is definitely sitting on top of that pile with the Pro option.
