Coen brothers' next film to follow a Hollywood private eye in the 1950s




For their next film, the Coen brothers are tackling a project that's been on their plate for a number of years. The comedic film, called Hail Caesar, centers on a Hollywood "fixer" named Eddie Mannix, according to Deadline, which broke the news this week. As a private eye during the height of the studio system in Hollywood — which saw stars locked up under multi-year contracts with movie studios like MGM — "fixers" like the fictional Mannix served to solve "problems" like scandalous affairs from getting into the public spotlight. Many private eyes played fast and loose with the law to get their jobs done. Showtime's TV series Ray Donovan also covers a Hollywood fixer.
