Renowned director Ari Folman will create an animated film based on the life and historic diary of Anne Frank. The Israeli filmmaker, who previously wrote and directed the The Congress and the Oscar-nominated animated documentary Waltz with Bashir, will script and direct what's described as a 'family-driven animation film.'
Screen Daily reports that Folman and his producer will be the first director-producer team to have "complete access" to the Anne Frank Fund's archive in Basel, Switzerland. The Anne Frank Fund was set up by the diarist's father, Otto Frank, who survived the war. Folman calls the production a "fantastic opportunity and challenge," explaining that there is "a real need for new artistic material to keep the memory alive...
